The Company was created in 1987 operating as a trading company producing a range of temporary site electrical equipment which is still being manufactured to this day.

It was incorporated in 1991 by the founding director, Mr. Colin Smith-Moorhouse, who had been involved in the selling and manufacturing of ball and needle valves since 1972. Having previously co-founded a valve manufacturing company in 1977, he sold his shareholding in 1990 to expand and develop Colson Industries Ltd.

In 1995 Mr. Smith-Moorhouse, was approached by former employees of his previous company with a view to setting up a valve manufacturing division within Colson Industries Ltd. During late 1995 and early 1996, the product range was designed, developed and tested. The range of valves was launched into the market place in July 1996. Since then the product portfolio has increased dramatically, not only in the sizes offered, but also in the diversity of valve types.

Since conception of the valve division, the number of employees is consistently increasing due to the successful sales and market penetration within the industry. Whilst the Company itself is relatively young, the staff have a total of over 125 years experience in valve manufacturing. 1998 saw further investment as Mr Bob Forrest joined the company to be in charge of our product design and engineering. He is well respected in the industry of valves and was head designer at one of our major competitors. Included in his brief was to introduce the range of mono flange valves and Double Block and Bleed valves. This has led to further investment with the arrival Of Mr. Hector King as the external sales representative who is concentrating on contractors and OEM companies.

Colson Industries Ltd is an expanding company. It is also a dynamic and forward thinking company, supplying quality valves that are produced to the ISO 9002 QA standard that suit customers' needs at realistic prices which maintain its competitive edge in the market place. During the first quarter of 2002 we attained qualification for the Pressure Equipment Directive - PED 97/23 for Module 3 Category 'H' being the 'Worst Case Scenario' for any of our valves. In the process we also up-graded our Quality System Standard to ISO 9001 and during 2003 we shall be converting to the new ISO 2000 series standard.

The valves manufactured by the Company are suitable for virtually every industry which uses an air line, water pipe or gas supply, as the ball and needle valves can be used for isolation and/or control of almost any media travelling through a pipeline. However, we at Colson have specialised from the field of instrumentation and related products by introducing the range of Block & Bleed valves that compliment the existing range of ball, needle and manifold valves. This has involved producing the Double Block & Bleed valves in a variety of materials including exotic alloys to suit the ever changing needs of the chemical and offshore industries and having them Fire Tested [ to BS 6755 Pt 2] to comply with industry requirements.

As we supply to a wide selection of industries, we are fully aware of the global nature of trading and have distributors in various countries throughout the world to promote the sale of the Colson valve range. With our worldwide network of distributors, we are constantly in touch with the developments and requirements of our customers. We are also present on the internet (http\\:www.colson.co.uk) as part of our commitment to the world market and the progress of technology. With this in mind we have released our catalogue on CD format for ease of use and accessibility.
